A retired butcher from Margate has won more than £6,000 just seven months after joining Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance’s lottery.
Father-of-one Leslie Swan, 88, signed up to the life-saving charity’s Regular Lottery and Superdraw when a canvasser called at his home in August.
He thought nothing more of his £8-a-month subscription until he received a call telling him he had won the jackpot in last week’s draw, with random lucky numbers 11, 14, 17 and 33.
Leslie won a grand total of £6,027.84 and is now planning to spend his winnings on a holiday to Belgium with his wife Winnie.
He said: “I’d forgotten all about the lottery and I’m shocked to have won so much. I’ve only ever won £1,000 in our local football club’s lottery a few years ago.”
Winnie added: “I thought it might be our lucky week because I popped to the shop and my purchases came to £7.77, and seven is my lucky number.”
The couple, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last year, are former members of Margate and Cliftonville bowling clubs and Leslie is the third Superdraw winner from East Kent so far this year.
Two weeks ago, retired midwife Ann White from Deal won £5,990 while crane supervisor John Bain, from Dover, won almost £12,000 in February - both of them just six months after signing up.
Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance’s Regular Lottery costs just £1 per week and there are 12 winners drawn each week with prizes ranging from £25 to £1,000.
For an extra £1 a week, players can join the Superdraw which has a maximum jackpot of £25,000. To join the lottery go to www.kssairambulance.org.uk/lottery or call 01622 833833
